Pantasia

Pantasia is a monospaced counterpart to Times New Roman. Times New Roman is one of the world’s most ubiquitous typefaces, conceived in 1931 by Stanley Morison in collaboration with Victor Lardent and perhaps William Starling Burgess for British newspaper ‘The Times’. Pantasia is roughly based on the ‘Wide 427’ cut of Times New Roman which was first issued in 1938 and intended as an ‘uncondensed’ version for book printing. The creation of Pantasia was motivated by my passionate interest in Times New Roman, and was drawn as a means to understand Times’ proportion, rhythms as well as a way to study the essence of its ‘Timesness’ beyond its association as a ubiquitous and default typeface. Pantasia is named after a bakery in ‘Yakitate!! Japan’, the anime I was watching when I first started drawing Pantasia in Berlin in 2016.
