Umiak is a take on the Berthold's Corinna (1904) and the 1970s ITC revival Korinna with stylistic influences from typefaces like Cheltenham, New Text, Souvenir and Clearface. The lowercase of Umiak is slightly narrower than the broad face of Korinna but retains those awkward (but stylistically important) little serifs. Also, similar to the 1970s ITC revival, the x-height of Umiak is quite tall allowing generous vertical space for attention grabbing curves in letters like b d g q . However, in order to soften the uppercase and to help it gel with organic flourishes of the lowercase, Umiak has calligraphic touches and curves in high-frequency letters A S T as well as M N V W X Y.
