Tugev
Tugev is a jugendstil grotesk inspired by a thicket of late nineteenth and early twentieth century expressive sans-serifs. Tugev draws on the formalities of Breite Grotesk, the visual impact of Zeitungs Grotesk and the recherché curves of typefaces like Ronaldson Gothic, Secession, Chicago and Aviso. Specific details take reference from Berthold’s Venus while the height of the cross bars in uppercase letters like E G R draw influence from Jugendstil and Secessionist lettering. The modulation (the stroke contact from thick to thin) is pushed to the extreme in the heavier weights of the terminals of curved letters. These strokes run thin making Tugev firmly non-linear. For contrast the accompanying 'true' italic is inspired by Lining Gothic Italic No. 524 as seen in the 1906 American Line Type Book published by American Type Founders Co. The design of Lining Gothic is closer to true italic forms than a typical oblique italic. It is both flowing and rhythmical and enjoys a stark contrast with the awkward and robust formality of Tugev roman. [futurefonts.xyz]
