Principio
Principio is a free typographic interpretation of the capitals found on the title pages of illuminated Irish and English manuscripts dating back to the 7th century. These typographic compositions, with their interwoven and ornate characters, are of breathtaking graphic richness. Among the most beautiful manuscripts that have come down to us are the Book of Durrow (664–700), the Lindisfarne Gospels (700), and the Book of Kells (Iona and Kells, 800). Principio seeks to capture the spirit of early medieval art through a geometric interpretation adapted for contemporary use. Capitals, lowercase, and small caps can be used separately or combined to create a wide variety of tones and styles. The typeface also includes an extensive set of intricate ligatures and uncial alternates, offering a rich diversity of forms to explore. [skritur.eu]
