Phonk
This typeface draws inspiration from J.M. Bergling’s untitled “modern alphabet” featured in his Art Alphabets and Lettering (1914). The Phonk typeface family features a sharp design with Contextual Swashes and Multiple Alternates. It will be available in seven weights, each accompanied by italic styles. [instagram.com]
We discovered the work of Chicago-based designer J. M. Bergling (1866-1933) and our interest into the fine balance existing between the decorative / Art Nouveau aesthetic and something that would feel almost futuristic kept growing. We were also inspired by underground and alternative press from different protest and countercultural movement and thought that all of those influences could be brought together and lo create a type family. That's how the Phonk project started. [Yearbook of Type #7]
