LL Kristall is the third in a series of sans serif fonts by Laurenz Brunner. Following the neo-grotesque LL Akkurat (2004) and the geometic sans LL Circular (2013), LL Kristall completes the trilogy, introducing a humanist sans that offers a fresh perspective on an under-loved genre. The roots of this design go back to Brunner’s formative years in London, where he briefly studied at the St. Martin’s School of Art. Both the London Tube typeface by Edward Johnston and the iconic road signage of Margaret Calvert left a lasting impact on Brunner, shaping his design approach for years to come. LL Kristall draws inspiration from these and other strands of the UK’s rich typographic tradition. With its low contrast design and vertically cut terminals, LL Kristall stands out as more robust than most humanist sans serifs. It strikes a balance between minimalism and calligraphy, between rational clarity and expressive form. [lineto.com]
