F37 Morta is a pixel font available in two weights, supporting both Latin and Arabic. The font takes its name from the game, ‘Children of Morta,’ developed by Iranian game designers, a nod to the designers heritage. Pixel fonts are usually designed on an 8x8 or 16x16 grid. This is a grid that suits the Latin characters well, but poses an exciting design challenge for the Arabic letters, trying to fit them within this limitation. Challenging characteristics of the script include: lettershapes extending below the baseline and multiple dots. Therefore, the Arabic design uses as few pixels as possible to achieve clarity and functionality while adhering to the grid. The Arabic version, based on the Naskh style and includes over 100 ligatures. F37 Morta also includes nostalgic gaming symbols like Pac-Man, a pixelated heart, and a dinosaur. The Latin version offers alternate characters, including four ampersand options. [f37foundry.com]
