CoFo Holz

CoFo Holz is an expressive serif typeface with unapologetic character. It counterbalances sharpness and softness, combining triangular wedge serifs with circular dots and terminals. The design creates a playful tension of simple geometric shapes by incorporating a modern modular feel within a classic serif typeface. The ideological and stylistic inspiration behind CoFo Holz come from two sources—18th Century Engravings and American Wood Type—both known for their particularly exaggerated pointed serifs. Reflecting on this historical context of letters carved from wooden blocks, we named it “Holz,” a German word for “wood.” CoFo Holz goes beyond its traditional references and transforms them into a contemporary functional design.
