Bearklaw
Sometimes, creative inspiration is a slow trickle. Other times, it mauls you in a single moment and won’t let go. Bearklaw’s moment occurred when stumbling upon a mail order ad for a ’65 Lyons Maid model Stingray. The title is set in a unique cut of Futura Display—that second cousin once removed of the ever-popular Futura family. As we dove into researching various pre-digital cuts, we found ample space to explore, riff, and expand on that irresistible charm—the oddity that just seems to work. Bearklaw is not a pure revival but a fusion of the ideas we saw at play. These makeshift geometric systems come together to form a powerhouse display family, brought into the modern era. Bearklaw includes various historical alternates, some good ol’ goop, and a wider cut for particular use at small sizes to satiate additional cravings for The ‘Klaw. [fortfoundry.com]
