Athena Ruby is a typeface for transcription of Byzantine seals and coins, commissioned by the Dumbarton Oaks Research Library and Museum. It provides multiple forms of Greek and Latin letters, reflecting more than a thousand years of palaeographic evolution and distinctive sigillographic and numismatic usage. Athena Ruby was selected as a Judge’s Choice in the 2013 TDC Typeface Design competition by Abbott Miller, who noted ‘its ability to aid research and provide typographic expression that, in turn, leads to a stronger set of interpretative tools.’ Version 2.00 of Athena Ruby includes extensions made in recent years and a broader range of font formats, and is released by Dumbarton Oaks under the Open Font License.
