Coding fonts

Monospaced typefaces for writing and reading source code.

Useful features this type of use include economy of space, on-screen legibility at small sizes, overtly distinct appearance of similar characters (0Oo, 1lI, etc.), and good defaults to account for various levels of OpenType support in programming environments.

The syntax of source code is mainly highlighted with color, but may also make use of different font styles. It’s therefore useful for a coding typeface to be duplexed — also called uniwidth or metrics-compatible — across styles.
