First appearance of the label is in 2016 as side project by Alessio D’Ellena. Established as unstable practice reflecting an idiosyncratic expression of typographic culture. Typefaces and writing systems are the focus of a line of research devoted to pushing the boundaries of tradition. Superness is an exercise in analogy. A typeface is at one time text, mathematics, writing system, software and could be even more than that. Research and self-reflective thinking on writing media —and its (re)production— are foundational themes in the Superness’ investigation around the role of design in relation to society.
